Description

Set out to conquer the small volcano Puy Violent, which rises to 1,592 meters. This hike is suitable for families thanks to its high-altitude plateau with a gradual ascent.

The climb up this peak, which towers over the Violent Plateau at an elevation of 1,594 meters, offers a superb panoramic view of Roc Labro, Puy Mary, Roc des Ombres, and even the Sancy Massif...

Its name is said to derive from a corruption of “puy bêlant” or “suc d’en bioulant,” a reminder of the days when sheep replaced cows during the transhumance season...

Although it is anything but “violent” today, this small, 70-meter-high pyramidal cone is composed of Strombolian ejecta, bearing witness to the turbulent history of the formation of the Cantal stratovolcano... Viewed from the Barrouze esplanade, the Dondon and Bouval peaks, or the Promenade des Estives, the pyramidal shape of Puy Violent often leads people to confuse it with Puy Mary...
